Care & Safe Use
The Sous-Chef Toddler Tower has been designed and re-designed to maximize safety. Watch one of these tests we did! Parents can make the best calls about their children’s needs and capabilities, so always have adult supervision when the product is in use. This will enable you to step in if your child is misusing the Toddler Tower. Examples of misuse are rocking the Tower, climbing on the sides, or climbing up through the top onto other surfaces (like a counter). The weight limit is 150 lbs.

As a general rule, if your child’s bellybutton is above the top of the Tower’s sides, you should lower the standing platform. If you are using the tallest platform setting, we encourage you to use the guard plate along with the dowel.
FULL PLATE SAFE USE
There are some extra cautions and concerns to keep in mind when the Full Plate is in use:
- Many Montessori families choose to introduce practical work while the child is young, and the Full Plate can help support them in their tower, but with supervision.
- Children may attempt to climb up the Full Plate assuming that is how you enter
- Independent use (needs adult supervision AT ALL TIMES. The intended use is with an adult physically close during any and all use.)
- The Full Plate is meant to add extra security and confidence while a child is still navigating the Toddler Tower. The Full Plate is NOT meant to make the tower like a high chair, where they are more secure. This does not have a buckle to lock your child in and is meant to have constant adult supervision while in use. A child may try to enter or exit when left alone with the Full Plate on and this would cause a great risk. A child attempting to exit on their own is more likely to use the tower unsafely, which may tip the tower or encourage them to climb up the tower. To exit the tower the child will either need to be lifted out or the Full Plate will need to be removed. The Full Plate is to offer more peace of mind while you complete tasks or activities together.

When can you start using a toddler tower?
Many families choose to introduce a toddler tower once their child is steady on their feet while holding onto something for support.
For most children, this is around 12 months old, though every child develops at their own pace. The key sign to look for is balance and confidence when standing, rather than a specific age.
Are toddler towers safe for kids?
Toddler towers are safe when they are well-designed and used with adult supervision. Our Toddler Tower is built to be stable despite its small footprint, and the design avoids common entrapment risks.
In testing, the tower could be tilted to a 14-degree angle with 50 pounds of weight hanging from the side before tipping, which shows its strength and stability. See our video to learn more.
As with any piece of furniture that elevates a child, we recommend close parental supervision whenever the toddler tower is in use.
As a general rule, if your child’s belly button is above the top of the Tower’s sides, you should lower the standing platform. If you are using the tallest platform setting, we encourage you to use the guard plate along with the dowel.
Does the tower have one or two handles?
Our Toddler Tower was originally designed with a single handle on the back, positioned where a child’s belly naturally rests while standing. In our updated design, the tower now includes two side handles, making it easier for adults to move the tower when needed.
How long can a child use a Sprout Toddler Tower?
A toddler tower can be used for several years, depending on when it’s introduced and your child’s growth. Our Toddler Tower is designed to grow with your child, with its adjustable platform that helps maintain safe positioning as they get taller. For the best fit and continued safety, refer to the height chart below to know when to adjust the platform.

What is the Full Plate, and do I need it?
The Full Plate is an optional guard that adds extra support while your child builds confidence in the Toddler Tower. It can also be used to make the toddler more suitable for children of younger ages, like a baby tower.
It can help prevent:
- Slipping or falling backward
- Unintended independent climbing
- Bending over and falling through the opening
If you already have the Sous-Chef Toddler Tower, you can get the Toddler Tower Full Plate separately.
We recommend the Full Plate if:
- children are under 32" or still working on spatial awareness
- parents want to block access temporarily
- families want to ease into independent use
Some signs they might be ready to use the tower without the Full Plate are that they are confident and stable in the tower or if they can navigate stairs independently.
Does this tower fold?
This design of the Toddler Tower does not fold, but we do have a foldable Toddler Tower in-development. You can see it here.
We really like this tower, and our son learned very quickly how to climb up and down on it. The only downside is that the wood has dark lines running through it (more than I expected) which was a bit disappointing since it’s described as “finished birch.” Aside from that, it’s strong, sturdy, and has a very minimal footprint.
We’re so glad to hear your son took to the tower so quickly! Because we use real birch plywood, natural grain variation, including darker lines, can show through, even with a clear, finished surface. Each piece is unique, though we understand this can be different from what some families expect.

We bought this tower for my 1 year old’s first birthday, she has used it every day since it arrived! She loves to be high enough to help mom in the kitchen! Highly recommend this tower!!!
We started using the tower when my daughter was 11 months old. We added the back panel for extra support and it's worked SO well! She can't walk yet but will stand in here for so long! We have primarily used in the kitchen so she can be a part of the action. I love that we will be able to use this for years!
Our little artist (1 1/2 yo) loves it. He figured it out right away and is so happy having access to more of the kitchen. It took about 5-10 minutes to put together— everything just clicks into place. It really saves our arms because we don’t have to hold him the whole time we’re cooking anymore.
We love our toddler tower. My 14 month old crawls up and down all day. He’s still a bit too young to ‘help’ much at the counter but he loves being at our height. I imagine we will truly use this for many years to come.
Great quality and design, feels safe and secure. My daughter has been in it since we got it. Great way to involve your littles in the kitchen and make them feel part of process. Raising them to your height opens up their world to so much. An absolute must have!!!

I love love the toddler tower (and my toddler feels the same way) she’s been standing in it since around 10 months, just to look out windows. Now that’s she’s 15 months, she loves helping in the kitchen. It’s very sturdy and love the natural wood.
We got this for my 15 month old daughter for Christmas. She loves being able to climb up and “help” us cook now. It definitely took her some figuring out on how to climb in/out of it. Climbing in is the easier part, climbing out honestly took her like 2 months to figure out because she had to figure out the whole turn around and go backwards idea. If your kid does that with stairs already they may pick up on climbing down faster). It was easy to put together, feels sturdy and cleans up SO easily. We love it!

Again another great grow-with-you product from sprout. We’ve been using ours since our son was standing stable (about 10 mo old). The only feedback I would give would be to put a hand hole on the front panel for easier lifting as we have a small kitchen and require our sous chef tower to be somewhat mobile.

My granddaughter has used the toddler tower for so many purposes. She loves to help her Dad cook so she is right up close to the counter to help him make food and cookies. She also uses it to eat, wash her hands, brush her teeth, or just for playing in the sink! It has just been the best!

If your child wants to be all up in your business while you are cleaning or cooking in the kitchen - this is the solution for you! We got it when our son was 12mo and now at 14mo, he can climb up and down safely on his own. It’s a little terrifying, but they really can do it solo and the tower was built so well, we’ve never had any falls either. We just encourage him to go slowly and voila, your sous chef can be right by your side instead of needing to be held while you multi task. We give him safe utensils to “help” and he can stay busy while you are busy. Our don especially likes to eat his snacks right off the kitchen island while up in his tower. Now at 14mo, if he whines to “help” or wants up, we tell him to “go get your tower” and he knows what we mean. I bought the sprout kids toddler tower in 2019 when my son was a few months old. My son is now five and we have adjusted it through the years and he still uses it almost daily. My daughter is 1.5 and climbs up and down the toddler tower all day, every day to join me when I’m at the counter. The dowel at the back keeps her from falling out and I can easily remove it for my son when he wants to bake with me.
The toddler tower is a part of our kitchen and our memories! I take it for grated at this point like I take my stove or fridge for granted. I love that my children can safely be at counter height to see what I’m doing and join in. It is sturdy, easy to clean, and holds up today as good as it did when we first started using it five years ago. One of the best purchases I’ve made! Thank you Sprout Kids!!! We bought our son his toddler tower when he was about 1 year old. He is almost 3 and we still use it almost every day! Our daughter is now 7mo old and we can’t wait for her to be able to use it as well. We have used it all over the kitchen and dining area for cooking, washing dishes, getting food/snacks from pantries and even used it in other areas of the home for hand washing, and many more ways! It gives our son autonomy and he loves helping around the home.
We got this for my daughter in December and she turned two in January. She uses it literally every single day and I was -I-kid-you-not- just telling my husband yesterday how glad I am we got a non-collapsing tower. It takes up a bit more room, but she can move it around on our tile floor easily herself. We only have the rod enclosure on the back and she’s always felt completely safe.
Assembly was a little more hands on than we anticipated, but it isn’t going anywhere and is totally interlocking wood, which is neat.
I will say, before assembling, really take into account the height of your child and countertops to decide which tier to place the final ledge (the piece they’ll stand on); our daughter is pretty average height for a 2.5 yo but I wish we’d put the final platform at the highest possible setting. Since it’s all interlocked wood, it’d be quite the project to raise it up now.

We have adored this tower!!! We got it for my son when he was 14 months and he’s 2.5 now and has used it multiple times every day! Not only is it beautiful so we never have to put it away, but it’s SAFE! That was one thing I was worried about in getting a tower, but Sprout has gone above and beyond in their design to keep littles safe. We’re excited for his little sister to be able to use it next!
