Bed Sides

1 Low + 1 High Side is for beds arranged with a side against the wall. Put the high side next to the wall to help prevent wedging for children who roll in their sleep. If you arrange your bed with the head against the wall instead of a side, we recommend two Low Sides unless you plan to move it against the wall at some point.

2 Low Sides is ideal for beds arranged with the head of the bed against a wall. The Low Side has a wide entry point that goes along the entire side of the bed. Children will be able to climb in and out of bed safely in order to engage with their surroundings.

Scooped Sides shorten the entry point for children to climb off and on. Some parents find this helps for children who are attached to the support that their crib provides.

The Scoop Right Side has a high section on the left side and a scooped entrance on the right side. The child will sleep with their head by the high side with their feet by the scooped entrance.
The Scoop Left Side has a high section on the right side and a scooped entrance on the left side. The child will sleep with their head by the high side with their feet by the scooped entrance.

Each configuration can be adjusted to a taller, platform setting as children grow older and are ready for a taller "big kid" bed. Depending on the size of the mattress, the bed can last through their teenage years.

Care & Safe Use

Small children need to have space to right themselves if they roll off the bed. For children under 18 months, do not place Low Side or Scoop Side closer than 12" away from the wall.

The High Side should be less than 1.5" or greater than 12" away from the wall. This will prevent children from getting stuck or give them space to right themselves.

Many families also baby-proof the room: secure furniture, remove distractions, be aware of safety needs like choking hazards, and use a monitor.

FAQ

At what age should I transition my child to a floor/toddler bed?

The CPSC advises open beds for children 15 months and older. Some families switch earlier, others wait. You know your child best with how they sleep, their room setup, and readiness. Every child is different, so observe and adapt their space to support their unique growth, safety, and independence.

How can I help my child make the transition to a floor bed?

Read community feedback about their experiences transitioning to a floor bed as well as a sleep expert's advice below.

When is the best time to adjust the bed from the low to the high orientation?

The high orientation raises the mattress an additional 5 inches off the floor. The best time to adjust the bed is when your child feels comfortable getting into the bed independently with the additional height.

Where can I find assembly instructions?

Instructions can be found on our assembly help page.

Additional bed frame sides can help extend the lifespan of your bed so it works for your child through all developmental stages.

Product Updates

Recently, the Floor Bed's slats were changed from birch slats to a slat roll crafted from red oak in order to increase the strength of the frame and ease of assembly. Please note that with this change, the slats are now positioned slightly higher, raising the mattress within the frame by 1.2 inches

What makes a floor bed different from a mattress on the ground? This toddler bed frame is low but still lifts the mattress from the ground to stop mildew from growing!

A very nice looking floor bed frame. The predrilled holes for the slats were a bit off, so that caused a bit of a headache wirh the assembly. I was able to get it assembled. We’ll see how it holds up over time with a rambunctious toddler. Overall, I though 4 stars was fair and Im happy with the purchase. A but overpriced, but thats the world we are living in today.

good as expected

I received the bed frame last Friday and assembled it over the weekend. Overall, I'm very satisfied — the frame looks beautiful and fits well in our space.

That said, I did notice a couple of things I wanted to share as feedback.
First, the way the slats are screwed into the frame didn’t feel particularly sturdy, which made me a bit concerned during assembly.
Also, I noticed some patches or filler marks on a few of the wood panels, which look like touch-ups over natural imperfections — these were a little disappointing.

Aside from those minor issues, I’m really happy with the bed and appreciate the design and aesthetic.

Great toddler bed

We got this as a transition from crib to big kid bed with the intention for our son to grow with this. It’s a great bed that made the transition easy and is very well crafted. I highly recommend this bed.
