Connecting the body to the mind

When kids learn to balance, they're not merely developing physical stability; they're enhancing their concentration, coordination, and self-confidence.

These modular wooden balance beam sets can be arranged into a variety of shapes and configurations for unlimited open-ended play. Use the balance beam alongside other gross motor toys like a climbing triangle, stepping stones, and household items to create an indoor obstacle course!

Choose a set of some of our favorite unique beams, add on using the À La Carte page, or start from scratch and build your own custom set.

About the Beams

All of the beams serve a unique purpose and offer different kinds of sensory experiences and challenges.

Beam Type Description
Plain Beam standard flat, straight beam. Helps develop balance without added challenges.
Beam with Rungs creates an obstacle and kids must find creative ways to cross it.
Beam with Waves carved in offers a fun and helpful texture on bare feet, and makes gripping easier.
Curved Beam demands that little balancers think and move more carefully along the unique shape.
Narrowing Beam requires thoughtful foot placement as the beam shrinks to half the width in the middle.
Beam with Additional Holes can have Bases attached in the middle to create different paths and shapes.
Extra Long Beam A long, flat beam that is twice the length of the Plain Beam. creates a more difficult balance challenge!
Beam with Stepping Stones Creates unique, naturally inspired obstacles for additional challenges.

About the Bases

Bases are used to provide support at each end of a beam. For each beam being used, you'll need at least 1 more base (ex. 5 beams need 6 Bases). Some bases allow more than two beams to be attached allowing for more complex configurations.

Multiple bases can be stacked on top of one another to create extra height for the beam. We do not recommend stacking higher than one base with the long or curved beams or stacking higher than 3 bases with any other beam.

Base Type Description
Single Base

The Single Base is used at the end of the beam when you do not intend to connect another.

Can be stacked on any other base with one available dowel.

Double Base

The Double Base allows for a seamless connection between two beams

Can be stacked with any base with two available dowels.

Triangle Base

The Triangle Base allows for the connection of up to three beams

Can only be stacked on top of a Triangle Base.

Square Base

The Square Base allows for the connection of up to four beams

Can only be stacked on top of a Square Base.

Safe & Effective Use

  • We do not recommend stacking higher than one base with the long or curved beams or stacking higher than 3 bases with any other beam.
  • We don't recommend using the beams without connecting them to bases at the same level on each end. The bases have non-slip grips attached to the bottom to prevent sliding, but the beams do not, and they may slide if used directly on the floor.
  • The plain, carved waves, extra holes, and runged beams can be flipped and used on either side, but the long and curved beams should only be used with the flat side facing up, as the additional supports on the bottom are an important safety feature.
  • To clean, follow our Proper Use and Cleaning guide
  • The balance beams and bases are not intended for outdoor use.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with liquids to prevent water damage.
