Height Recommendations for Tables, Chairs and Shelves
If you're trying to match up table heights and chair heights, this should help get you started!
For Home Environments:
In Montessori, the prepared environment is designed to grow with your child, and that includes shared spaces.
When setting up a table and chairs for children of different ages, adaptability is key.
-
For small age gaps:
-
Choose a taller table sized for the older child.
-
Pair it with an appropriately sized chair for the older child.
-
Use a slightly taller chair for the younger child, aiming for a 5"-6" difference between the chair and tabletop.
-
-
For larger age gaps:
-
A shared table may not provide proper ergonomic support for both children.
-
Consider our stackable Chowki Floor Tables, ideal for kneeling or sitting at a low height. This is a more affordable option to allow the children to have separate spaces, which can then be stacked to free up room.
-
With a few thoughtful adjustments, you can create a shared space that supports each child’s needs and development. For more ideas, see this blog.
