Full Plate Details

If you have some concerns with your child using the Toddler Tower you can add the Full Plate until you and your child feel confident with them in the tower.

The Full Plate can help prevent:

  • Slipping and falling out
  • Bending and falling out backward
  • Independent entrance and exit

If you already have the Sous-Chef Toddler Tower, you can get the Toddler Tower Full Plate separately.

When might the Full Plate be helpful?
  • If a child drops an item that lands on the platform of the Toddler Tower, they might bend down to pick it up. A child learning spatial awareness might not think of the Toddler Tower opening when bending down to pick up the item and might fall out of the opening. The Full Plate guard can be there as protection and guide while children are still learning awareness.
  • Children can use the Toddler Tower from 28 inches to 44 inches. For some, there might be concern about children slipping or falling if their child needs more support standing. The Full Plate is for those who want extra security.
  • It can be hard to make a piece of furniture 'unavailable' when you don't want your child to use it. If you have decided that you currently do not want the child to utilize the tower, the Full Plate removes the option for your little one to climb into the tower. Adept climbers may still attempt to climb the tower when the Full Plate is attached, which brings greater risk for the child. Read and follow all safety guidelines for use.
  • The Full Plate can extend the use of the Toddler Tower, allowing parents to utilize it with their children before they are completely independent.

TOWER SAFE & EFFECTIVE USE

The Sous-Chef Toddler Tower has been designed and re-designed to maximize safety. Watch one of these tests we did! Parents can make the best calls about their children’s needs and capabilities, so always have adult supervision when the product is in use. This will enable you to step in if your child is misusing the Toddler Tower. Examples of misuse are rocking the Tower, climbing on the sides, or climbing up through the top onto other surfaces (like a counter). The weight limit is 150 lbs.

As a general rule, if your child’s bellybutton is above the top of the Tower’s sides, you should lower the standing platform. If you are using the tallest platform setting, we encourage you to use the guard plate along with the dowel.

FULL PLATE SAFE & EFFECTIVE USE

There are some extra cautions and concerns to keep in mind when the Full Plate is in use:

  • Many Montessori families choose to introduce practical work while the child is young, and the Full Plate can help support them in their tower, but with supervision.
  • Children may attempt to climb up the Full Plate assuming that is how you enter
  • Independent use (needs adult supervision AT ALL TIMES. The intended use is with an adult physically close during any and all use.)
  • The Full Plate is meant to add extra security and confidence while a child is still navigating the Toddler Tower. The Full Plate is NOT meant to make the tower like a high chair, where they are more secure. This does not have a buckle to lock your child in and is meant to have constant adult supervision while in use. A child may try to enter or exit when left alone with the Full Plate on and this would cause a great risk. A child attempting to exit on their own is more likely to use the tower unsafely, which may tip the tower or encourage them to climb up the tower. To exit the tower the child will either need to be lifted out or the Full Plate will need to be removed. The Full Plate is to offer more peace of mind while you complete tasks or activities together.

FAQ

When can my child start using the tower?

Many wait to introduce the Toddler Tower until their child is stable on their feet when holding onto something. This tends to be around 12 months old, but varies for every child!

Does the tower tip easily since it narrows in the legs?

This Tower is stable despite its small footprint. When tested, the Tower could be tilted to a 14-degree angle with 50 lbs hanging from the side before tipping. See our video to learn more.

Does the tower have one or two handles?

The Toddler Tower was originally designed with one handle on the back of the tower where a child's belly goes when they are standing in it. The updated design has two handles, one on either side for easy handling.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY CHILD HAS OUTGROWN THE TOWER?

We recommend moving on to something else once your child’s belly button is above the sides when on the lowest setting. Some signs they might be ready to use the tower without the Full Plate are that they are confident and stable in the tower or if they can navigate stairs independently.

WHO MIGHT NOT WANT OR NEED THE FULL PLATE?

You want the child to use the tower independently to pursue their work and curiosities, you cannot lift your child up and into the tower, or you cannot supervise your child at all times.

Great for our little artist!

Our little artist (1 1/2 yo) loves it. He figured it out right away and is so happy having access to more of the kitchen. It took about 5-10 minutes to put together— everything just clicks into place. It really saves our arms because we don’t have to hold him the whole time we’re cooking anymore.

Great, anticipate long life!

We love our toddler tower. My 14 month old crawls up and down all day. He’s still a bit too young to ‘help’ much at the counter but he loves being at our height. I imagine we will truly use this for many years to come.

Great tower!

This is such a fun addition to our home! My 15mo loves standing by me and watching (and sometimes helping) me make food, do the dishes, etc. Before we had this, he would stand by my side and scream until I was done, but with this tower, he is able to participate and learn and it has cut down on screaming while I’m working in the kitchen!
It was kinda hard to assemble on my own and needed my husband to help push some of the pieces into place.
Overall I’m very happy with my purchase!
